
10th ENTRY ANNOUNCEMENT
Saldanha Bay Yacht Club is back in the mix for the 2025 Lipton Cup Challenge, fielding a high-powered combination of seasoned experience and fresh young talent. Co-skippered by Theo Yon and Sean Kavanagh.
Theo returns to his 16th Lipton Cup (same amount as Sean’s age), fresh off a first-place finish in 2023, a 3rd place in 2024, and multiple more top-three finishes. With a standout career across both offshore and inshore circuits, Theo has multiple national podiums, including the J22 and 505 Class. He’s also flown the flag for South Africa internationally at multiple events, including at the SSL Gold Cup in Canary Islands alongside the likes of Ian Ainslie, Mark Sadler, and David Rae.
Helming, Sean (16) joins as co-skipper in his Lipton Cup debut. Already a 9-time National Champion across dinghy classes, Sean has podiumed in the DF95 fleet, won the Mykonos Offshore, and claimed line honours in the Cape2Rio. He’s also earned a top 10 at 29er Europeans and top 5 at Youth Worlds, proving himself as one of SA’s most versatile young sailors.
Edmund Tough (18) takes the bow in his Lipton Cup debut. Starting out in Gordon’s Bay and now racing keelboats out of RCYC, Edmund has a Cape to St Helena podium and an ORC Nationals win with Theo under his belt. The crew will also be joined with young 29er sailor; Aedon Oselr. This team fields an average age of 22.5.
