Walvis Bay Yacht Club has officially entered the 2026 Lipton Challenge, returning with Björn Geiger at the helm for his eighth Lipton Challenge Cup. Having competed across three eras of the competition; the L26, Cape 31 and now the J22. Björn has represented Walvis Bay Yacht Club in every Lipton Challenge Cup he has contested.
WBYC has consistently been among the front-runners in recent years, finishing 4th in 2019 before narrowly missing out on the title with a hard-fought 2nd place in 2022.
Björn is joined once again by Rob van Rooyen and James Largier, a Lipton Challenge Cup veteran, having sailed his first Lipton at just 12 years old.
The 2025 campaign got off to the worst possible start when the team suffered a broken rudder before the opening race, resulting in a DNC. Undeterred, they fought their way back through the regatta, claiming two race wins. With that determination and experience behind them, Walvis Bay Yacht Club will once again be looking to challenge at the front of the fleet.
